Where does the name "Kreiva" come from?

A:

Kreiva means creativity in Esperanto, a language developed in the late 1800’s with the express purpose of finding, “a language unconditionally accepted by everyone, and the common property of the whole world."

Q:

What are the attributes of a successful Krieva Academy student?

A:

  • Demonstrate responsible social citizenship, innovation and a growth mindset.

  • Display global awareness, courage and a willingness to take risks.

  • Be a lifelong learner, respectful and self aware.

Q:

What should students expect from their Kreiva education?

A:

  • Support for their well-rounded growth, including academic, personal, and professional.

  • A personalized program that builds their experience around their specific needs and interests, driving towards their goals. Those with particular passions are assisted in pursuing them, while completing a well-rounded education.

  • Material appropriate for their learning level in each subject, academic support at all levels, a variety of options for learning content, and multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery, if needed.

  • The chance to learn anytime anywhere. Extended Learning Opportunities, such as online classes, independent studies, internships, job shadows, and community work are integrated into the curriculum.

  • Significant input into their learning, school governance, discipline, school culture, and other aspects of school life; ownership of their education that makes them more likely to be to dedicated and passionate about the outcome.

  • First-hand experience meeting challenges relevant to them, through guided service and innovation projects.

  • A thorough understanding of civic life and their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

  • Opportunities to gain experience, distinguish themselves, and earn recognition for achievement in areas such as leadership, scholarship, and service.

Q:

Is there flexibility in the Kreiva curriculum?

A:

Students have a variety of choices for how they approach individual learning targets. Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) provide access to a variety of customization options. If needed, they can try more than one approach until they achieve mastery.

Q:

How is student performance data used to improve learning?

A:

Student progress toward goals and learning targets is regularly measured using varied types of assessments. Data is tracked in student Individual Growth Plans, with adjustments made to the plans as necessary. Data also helps staff improve and strengthen both instruction and the overall curriculum.

Does Kreiva meet NH learning standards?

A:

Kreiva uses a structure of clear and consistent learning targets that meet or exceed all NH standards. Credit is awarded when a student shows mastery of a competency—a predetermined set of learning targets.

Q:

Are students stuck in tracks at Kreiva?

A:

No. Students’ successes and struggles are tracked and their Individual Growth Plans are adjusted accordingly, ensuring they are regularly learning at the right challenge level for them.

Q:

How does Kreiva make education relevant?

A:

Kreiva Academy uses Project-Based Learning (PBL) whereby students are encouraged to weave their school lives and “real” lives together. They are challenged to engage in projects and topics of study that have real impact on their world.

What is "experience-based" learning?

A:

Students learn by doing—testing, inventing, debating, designing, interviewing, creating— and then reflect on their experiences. This makes learning deeper, more meaningful, and more engaging.

Does Kreiva offer a personalized education?

A:

Yes.  Students are empowered to actively participate in shaping their education.  Individual Growth Plans describe each student’s unique needs and goals, and establish a plan for future coursework.

Q:

How are Krieva students encouraged to grow?

A:

Students are challenged to reach beyond their perceived limits and are taught to have a growth mindset—that what they can do is determined by effort and persistence. Not “I can’t do that,” but “I can’t do that yet.”

What is Crew?

A:

Crew provides a peer group that goes beyond academics to offer social/emotional support. Crew meetings focus on topics such as responsibility and organization, health and financial literacy, and character development.

Is diversity encouraged?

A:

Kreiva Academy knows that the entire community is strengthened by multiple perspectives, and so celebrates the many aspects of diversity.

Do students have a voice in discipline and governance?

A:

Kreiva Academy has a culture that respects all voices as valuable. Uniquely, we welcome input from all members of the community regarding our discipline and governance system.

Is Kreiva's program challenging?

A:

Members of the Kreiva community challenge each other and themselves to reach beyond their comfort zones both academically and personally. This develops courage, character, and a shared commitment to growth.

What is the culture at Kreiva like?

A:

The atmosphere of Kreiva is one of respect, support, and expression. Students are encouraged to explore new interests and challenges. By modeling and defending these values, students develop leadership and integrity.

Is there a lottery to enter Kreiva?

A:

Kreiva is currently not at full capacity, and therefore no lottery is being used.
